1841, 1d red-brown, Alphabet II, FD, tied by indistinct barred numeral obliteration to entire dispatched from ”PENMAEK MAUR” via ”CONVAY SP 6 1852” and ”London 7 SP 1 1852” (datestamp on reverse), Calais transit marking date ”8 Sept. 52” and transit marking ”VIA DI / PT. BEAUVOISIN” on front, addressed to ”Lord Clifford, to the care of Mess. Plowder & Co., Bankers, Rome, Italy”, charged ”66” on delivery. The 1841, 1d red-brown with large margins on all four side, adhesive and entire are in a fresh state of preservation. The entire was sent unpaid and a charge of ”66” bajocchi was raised in the Papal State to be paid by the recipient upon delivery. The 1841 1 d redbrown adhesive paid 1 d extra late fee. Or the 1 d adhesive was afixed by the sender in error for an inland letter and placed in a post office letter box, but in this case the 1d adhesive was not accepted as a part payment. An early foreign destination from the well known ”Lord Clifford correspondence” to the Italian States bearing an 1841 1 d red-brown adhesive. A very scarce usage, certificate Louis BPP.
