1862, very attractive transatlantic three color franking with the top values of the 1861 president issue for 24, 30 an 90 Cents each with red mute bar-cancellation on large pre UPU-cover of the 6th weight rate with additional red strike NEW YORK BR.PKT. ”by Steamer China” to Hichin, Herts (Hertfordshire), England. Certificate Enzo Diena, the 90 Cent with insignificant fault. The cover has been cleaned. This correctly franked cover is an extraordinary rarity of US-philately. This lot has been offered in our 5th sale and was subsequently given a certificate stating 24 Cents and 90 Cents stamps do not belong onto the cover. We cannot follow this opinion for the following reasons: 1) The red ink of the postmarks on all three stamps is entirely consistent, even with a great degree of patience we consider it extremely difficult to obtain non native stamps with the same shade of ink. 2) The strikes are also consistent with a line of consecutive strikes on the cover. 3) The canceller ties the 30 and the 24 Cent stamps together. We have consulted a range of experts and members of the trade, none has found grounds to assert that the stamps do not belong. We have reduced the price for this extraordinary item and offer for sale 'as is' but in the firm belief that the new certificate is erroneous. The Enzo Diena certificate from 2001 finds no issue with the stamps origination. (M)
1862, sehr attraktive Transatlantik-3-Farben-Frankatur mit den Höchstwerten der 1861er Präsidentenausgabe zu 24, 30 und 90 Cent jeweils entwertet mit stummem roten Strichstempel auf großformatigem vor-UPU-Brief der 6. Gewichtsstufe mit rotem K1 NEW YORK BR.(british) PKT. ”per Steamer China” nach Hitchin, Herts (Hertfordshire) in England. Dabei ein Fotoattest Enzo Diena, die 90 Cent-Marke mit unbedeutender Schürfung, der Umschlag wurde gereinigt. Dieser portorichtige Brief stellt eine erstrangige Rarität der USA-Philatelie dar. Dieses Los wurde in unserer fünften Auktion angeboten und erhielt anschließend ein Zertifikat mit der Angabe 24 Cent und 90 Cents Briefmarken gehören nicht zum Brief. Aus den folgenden Gründen können wir dieser Behauptung nicht folgen: 1) die rote Tinte des Stempels auf allen drei Briefmarken ist völlig konsistent. Auch mit einem großen Maß an Geduld betrachten wir es als äußerst schwierig, nicht zugehörige Marken mit dem richtigem Stempel mit dem gleichen roten Farbton zu erhalten. 2) die Stempelabschläge erscheinen auch plausibel als seien sie der Reihe nach in einem Arbeitsgang gemacht worden. 3) der Stempel geht von der 30 Cent auf die 24 Cent-Marke über. Wir haben eine Reihe von Experten und Mitglieder des Handels konsultiert. Niemand hat Gründe zu behaupten, dass die Briefmarken nicht auf den Brief gehören gefunden. Wir haben den Preis für diesen außerordentliche Brief reduziert und bieten 'wie besehen' an, sind aber der festen Überzeugung, dass das neue Zertifikat ist auf einer irrtümlichen Annahme basiert. Das Enzo Diena Zertifikat von 2001 findet kein Problem mit der Herkunft der Briefmarken. (M)
